The Drodg were once a slave race, created by the Empire of Selaan. The Drodg were once humans, but they were magically changed to be better adapted to harsh climates and hard labor. The Empire used them to quarry stone and mine ore to build and support their cities. The Drodg were spared the destruction visited upon Selaan by the gods and were freed to build their own civilization in the mountains. They have since spread to the mountainous regions on T'lec, Chaldon and Arenna. Their largest city is the subterranean stronghold, Dro Mitan in the Selaan mountains.

Physically, Drodg are hulking, heavyset and muscular, between 5 feet and 6 feet tall with a heavy bone structure. Their skulls are extremely thick, with heavy ridges and nodules of bone, giving them a lumpy thuggish look. Specialized to work underground, their eyes are wider than normal and they have been enhanced to allow sight in perfect darkness. Drodg have longer arms than normal humans and very wide shoulders, giving them a perpetually slouched look. Their entire bone structure has been enhanced and strengthened to handle heavy loads and resist damage from falling rocks. Their skin is a hairless and mottled grey, with a rough rock-like texture.

Their appearance often causes Drodg to be misjudged as brutish simpletons by those who do not know them well.

The T'k'rin are a pseudo-insectoid sentient race. An average T'k'rin stands 4'7" tall and weighs under 70 pounds. Their heads are wedge shaped with 2 large, faceted eyes located to provide 360 degree vision and their mouths are built around 2 small tearing mandibles. Their skin is leathery and brown with colorful hard chitin plates instead of a solid carapace. They are roughly humanoid, with 2 arms and 2 legs. Their legs are triple-jointed, similar in structure to an animal, with a mid-knee joint and a lower knee joint and extended foot. Their hands have 3 dexterous fingers and an opposing thumb. Their thin iridescent wings, similar to wasps, allow for short bursts of flight.

T'k'rin usually live in underground hive structures ruled by a queen. There are 3 sexes, neutral drones, fertile males and queen females. While the hive exists as a single mind controlled by the queen, she can detach a drone from the hive-mind, in effect creating a sentient individual. Drones that are detached in this manner develop their own personalities and memories separate from the hive-mind and often serve as ambassadors, explorers, merchants and highly skilled producers for the hive. Males are never detached and only leave the hive when a pubescent queen is ready to become fertile and start a new hive. If there is no location prepared for the new queen, the old and new queens will attempt to kill each other, leaving only the strongest to take over the hive-mind. The T'k'rin are native to the southwest peninsula of Chaldon.

Well, haven't gotten much work done on Rites in the last week or so, but I did flesh out a couple of the other races that share Aldun with the humans. Also, due to a goof on my part and a required upgrade to my mapping programs, Aldun is getting a minor facelift. The general layout of the continents will be the same, but the coastlines and some other features will be a bit different. I think the new map has more character, though :)

ps: if any of you use Fractal Terrains and plan on exporting into Campaign Cartographer, make sure you didn't screw around with the global water levels. Always global set water to 0 and map from there :)

Hi!

Welcome to the World of Aldun. I'm still working on my first actual submission to the project, as far as stories go, but the background I have created in the profile should provide a spur in the right direction for anyone that wants to create societies and stories in this world.

This was originally conceived as a shared world for storytelling, but the end-product might also make a good world for roleplaying campaigns. If anyone is interested in doing that, feel free and post actual-play notes when you have it up and running.

More detailed continent specific maps will be available on request, and I'll be planning on updating them to include society boundaries mentioned in stories by our writers.
